With the increase in social media accounts just for pets, and fun social media photographic and video challenges, cats and dogs are turning into internet sensations. Whether you are planning to join in the fun, or simply want to take some great pix for the family photo album, here are some photographic tips to capture some memorable entertainment. Before you start, be sure to stock up on treats in order to offer tasty rewards for their efforts!

1. Action Ready

Smart phones have very sophisticated built-in photographic, editing and enhancement features. So, it’s very easy to always be camera ready to capture funny pet antics and then crop and re-touch before posting. Knowing your phone’s settings from portrait to panorama and its basic lighting features are a good place to start.

2. Backgrounds That Can Enhance

If you’re planning a photo session with your dog or cat, keep the area clear of clutter. And, if you planning to introduce a background material or throw, choose something that will show off your pet’s fur coloring to its best advantage. If possible, “dress up” a favorite snooze place where you pet is comfortable instead of trying to entice them over to less familiar area of your home.

3. Getting Creative from the Ground Up

dachshund posing for the camera

Get down to your fur kid’s level, even if it means lying down on the ground. This is a great way to also learn about your pet’s world from their perspective. Even if your pooch or feline isn’t looking directly at the lens just keep snapping! You will be pleasantly surprised with the expressions that can be captured.

Further, experiment with interesting angles by moving around. Stand on a chair and shoot directly down. Lie on your back and try to capture your cat peering over the edge of her kitty condo. Consider both vertical and horizontal shots. And, if you have a glass-topped table, and taking their weight into account from a safety stand point, place your cat or small dog on the surface and lie underneath to snap away.

Positioning your feline or favorite pooch either one- or two-thirds across the screen, will instantly create an interesting composition too.

4. Let There Be Light

As any professional photographer will confirm, good photography is all about lighting. If your cat has an indoor lifestyle, try to position her so that she is bathed in natural light. However, don’t put her directly in front of a window because you’ll black out her features and create a silhouette. And be aware that a flash can give pets green eyes, the equivalent of red eyes in humans.

If your cat is leash-trained and you are able to take her outside for a photographic session, the best light is a bright overcast day because you won’t get shadows spoiling your shots. Planning a photographic session for early morning or late afternoon will also work well for similar reasons. If the sun is shining, try to keep it behind you. Use the flash outdoors too; it can help erase shadows.

5. Treats, Treats and Some Props …

To capture some really interesting shots, be sure to keep some tasty morsels handy to offer as scrumptious rewards. Cats will enjoy Wellness Kittles, natural, grain-free, crunchy cat treats. At only 2 calories per treat, Kittles are available in six flavors including chicken, turkey, whitefish, salmon, tuna and duck and all contain healthy cranberries.

Pups love soft, meaty WellBites or crunchy, oven-baked WellBars offering pets a healthy treat in a variety of favorite flavors such as chicken and cheddar cheese and peanuts and honey.

Also work with props just off-camera vision. All cats will respond to visual stimuli such as a laser beam or their favorite feathered toy on a wand. Even a piece of string will create some lively actions and reactions. You will certainly get your dog’s attention if someone holds a tennis ball (or treat) off camera at different angles.

6. Love Is in The Peanut Butter

Putting some catnip around your camera lens will “reel in” a feline for some fun and quirky close-ups. And, if you have two pets that get on well together, rub a bit of butter or peanut butter behind the ears of the more obliging pet and encourage the other to try and clean it off, making it look as if they are kissing and cuddling.

7. Is Your Pet the Next Video Star?

Smart phones have capabilities to produce excellent video footage too. Social media has given pets a platform to share their opinions and it can be fun to create a talking dog public-service-styled announcement like Pluto the Schnauzer, who uses her YouTube channel to advise humans how to handle Coronavirus issues.

There are Apps and video software designed to produce such fun footage. Alternatively, you can get creative by filming 15 – 20 minutes of your cat meowing or your dog chewing or barking. Upload the footage to a video editing program on your computer and select one to three minutes of the best footage. Write a brief script. Add it to the footage by “stretching out the footage” into play-by-play seconds in the editing process, and, using the computer’s microphone to record your audio onto the footage.

Currently, DogTV, the 24/7 digital TV channel scientifically developed for dogs, is looking for talent for their new show DOGSTAR featuring user-generated videos of furry friends. Check them out for a chance to be featured and win a subscription to watch your pets in action entertaining others from your own couch. One of the video categories focuses on “dogs at home”.

8. Rise to the Challenge

There are lots of fun pet challenges circulating on social media. the latest hilarious viral cat vs. dog challenge which shows how differently cats and dogs deal with obstacles placed in their way.

The Getty Museum also has a very creative challenge inviting people to recreate iconic artworks using just three objects lying around home. And pets make great subjects. Check the hashtags #betweenartandquarantine and #tussenkunstenquarataine on Twitter and Instagram.

And of course, we’d love to see how creative you are with your fur kids enjoying treats or their favorite food. Please share your photos with us by tagging #wellnesspetfood and @wellnesspetfood for a chance to be featured on our website or social pages!

During this time of uncertainty as the COVID-19 virus stretches across the globe, many are turning to their dogs for emotional support. Here are a 9 heartwarming stories of dogs coming to rescue their owners from sadness, fear and anxiety,

1. Autism service dog calms owner having panic attack

Marley is a trained autism service dog. In this video, his owner is having an anxiety attack. Marley stays by her side and slowly begins to step in as the attack becomes worse. While Marley’s owner tries to push Marley away, Marley jumps up on her lap and hugs her to which Marley’s owner hugs back. It’s moments like these that remind us dogs are so much more than animals. They are compassionate beings that want us free from suffering.

2. How Daisy has turned into my family’s comfort dog during the pandemic

While we may not be able to hug others during this time of quarantine and social distancing, our pets are stepping in for support. For the Biemer family, their dog Daisy has been a support for not only mom Joanne, but her three grade-school-aged kids who are now at home indefinitely. Daisy gets the family out of the house for long walks, eats dinner with the “pack” and snuggles up for movie nights and bedtime routines.

3. How one therapy dog is going virtual to support neglected kids

A special pup named Jordan is helping kids at the Kid’s House in Seminole Country, Florida. Kids House is a center for abused and neglected children offering a safe space for kids to play and heal. Dogs, offering unconditional love, is something these kids desperately need, says the staff. Jordan is that source of joy for everyone at Kid’s House.

Because of the pandemic, Kid’s House is working through teleconferencing to ensure their kids maintain therapy routines and are staying safe. Jordan is present for those calls and kids are instructed to pet their stuffed animals just as they would Jordan. Jordan has also been a huge support to the staff during this trying time, going to them for a hug or snuggle when things get tense.

4. Dog providing stress relief to elderly during pandemic

In Nebraska, the K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry is getting their furry friends out to as many elderly people as possible to provide comfort and solace during these uncertain times. While residents at Greene Place senior living cannot pet the dogs at this time due to safety guidelines, they still get weekly visits where they can see their good friend Nico through their windows, bringing comfort and familiarity to the hearts of all.

Staff says seeing Nico is a connection to normalcy and something for residents to look forward to each week. Nico will say a big hello from the porch, giving residents a moment of peace during this trying time.

5. Therapy dog at Massachusetts General Hospital brings comfort during coronavirus pandemic

Eduardo is a therapy dog at Massachusetts General Hospital. It’s his job to cheer up patients and staff, and right now, he’s working overtime. He brings smiles to everyone he sees acting as a reminder of hope during long days and even longer nights.

Eduardo makes his rounds, visiting staff and sick patients which gives everyone a sense of relief when they see his face. His main message is to remember that social distancing is important and to share your own “paw-fect” companion stories on social media.

6. Canine Companions service dogs helping their humans through pandemic

Located in Jacksonville, Florida, St. Augustine Rehab Specialists work with Parkinson’s patients on a daily basis, an illness that is already weighing on patients’ minds, but with the outbreak of COVID-19, anxiety fills the center.

Enter Harley, a 3-year-old pup who is a reminder of hope, peace, and joy. His job is to take patients’ minds off their illness, away from the virus and help them focus on living a full life without fear. Harley’s owner, physical therapist Melanie Lomaglio, sees a vast difference in her patients when Harley is around. During patient sessions, Harley helps patients forget the outside world and focus on health and happiness.

7. A service dog in training supports hospital staff during coronavirus

In Denver, Colorado, Dr. Susan Ryan works in the Rose Medical Center ER treating COVID patients around the clock. While the team is working hard to save lives, Wynn, Ryan’s therapy dog in training, has become their savior.

Ryan brings Wynn to work each day, but in these stressful times, Wynn has become a godsend. Petting Wynn calms the staff and first responders. Wynn is currently in training with Canine Companions for Independence to become a licensed therapy dog, but she is already well on her way to that title.

8. Forlorn dog finds new purpose

Michael Liedtke suffered multiple loses in a two-week span, including the death of his father and dog Surfer. News of the pandemic was another unwelcomed conflict, and even though he felt it was toon soon after Surfer’s death, he knew he had to make a move.

Michael and family adopted Wookiee, a 3-year-old Surfer doppelganger. Immediately, levity was brought to the family, including the kids who feel Wookiee is a new constant since school and play are no longer viable options. While this family has brought stability and comfort to Wookiee, Wookiee has done the same and more for them.

9. Dogs could join the fight against COVID-19

In the UK, medical detection dogs are being used to try and smell the virus. With recent success in teaching dogs to sniff out malaria, there is hope that dogs could be able to smell the COVID-19 virus. If it works, this could be a game changer for reopening the economy around the world!

Whether we are a veteran pet owner, a new foster pet parent or we gather joy from watching pet videos online, animals are stepping up during this time of need to help foster mental health and wellness for all. If you have a pet story to tell, put #StayPawsitive on your next social media post and share your joy with the world.

We are living in some wild times. 2020 has brought us waves of confusion and uncertainty, but there is always a silver lining to be found. Now that most of us are home, we are spending some much-needed time with our pets. Because we have limited means to go out and interact with the world, we are starting to get creative in our homes.

In the last month, there has been a surge of pet videos filling the internet, everything from animal fails to pet-loving Tik Tok videos…plus loads of cozy animal snuggle pictures. While we can’t interact with others in person, we can interact with the world through our pet videos. Animal videos bring joy to all, but when it comes to quarantining, some of our furry friends are bringing the funny to a whole new level. With pet owners stuck in the house, there is no place for pets to hide. Everything is caught on video, including a lot whole of pet owner boredom. Here are 15 pet videos to brighten your day!

  • 1. As the Wheel Turns

Everyone is trying at-home workouts during the pandemic, but it seems this one got away from our furry cat friend. Doing laps on her wheel, it seems the wheel got away from Arya, but hey, we’ll give her a 9.5 for that landing.

It is the ultimate animal battle: cats versus dogs. But only one can be the quarantine champion. These owners pin their furry feline against a pack of dogs to see who has more grace, agility, and class in a hallway obstacle course. The real question is, who is having more fun—the pets or the owners?

  • 4. Just Passing the Time…

With owners at home, pets have no privacy during the day like they used to. They don’t have their “me” time to wander and sniff and sleep. It means everything they do is in the public eye. This poor pup got caught attacking his own tail, but man, is it funny to watch!

  • 5. Pup Poker Night

Do you live alone? Are struggling to find ways to pass the time? This issue is a problem no longer if you have a pup in the house. Just teach your furry friend some card games and let the fun begin!

  • 6. Cranky Cats

We know dogs are happy about the stay-at-home orders. They love attention, walks, and a good belly rub, but cat owners know their temperamental fur babies need some time to warm up to the idea. This feline friend is doing their best to adjust to work-from-home parents.

  • 7. Dog Days of Quarantine

We may be missing our friends, but so are our pups! They want to party at the dog park and sniff some furry friends on their daily walks. Day 17494 of quarantine has us all a little down, but hey, at least they have each other.

  • 10. It’s Super Dog to the Rescue!

Maybe we aren’t giving our pets as much credit as we should. Since we can’t leave the house, maybe they can help us out! This brave pup goes on a journey to the store to get his owner everything he needs while following all the proper safety protocols.

For most people, their beloved cats and dogs are more than just pets – they’re family. If you have a four-legged furry family member who you’d like to pamper a bit this holiday season, read below for some stocking stuffer ideas to include your pets in your holiday celebrations.

Top 10 Stocking Stuffer Ideas

1. Dog Toys.

dog toys

Kids aren’t the only ones who would be excited to receive new toys for Christmas! Get your dog a new squeaky ball, frisbee or chew toy so they too can enjoy a new toy on Christmas morning. Pet stores always have fun holiday-themed toys if you’d like to keep playtime festive.

2. Cat Toys.

Just like dogs, cats will enjoy seeing a new toy that Santa left in their stocking! Maybe buy your feline friend a new teaser toy, crinkle mouse or jingle ball. If you want to give your cat a bit of a fun challenge, buy a challenge toy – perfect for stuffing with a Wellness Holiday Treat!

3. Leash or Collar.

Give your animal a new look with a different leash or collar to wear! Look for fun holiday designs so they too can get spruced up and fancy for the holidays along with the rest of the family.

4. Catnip.

Give your kitty the gift that makes cats go crazy – literally. Let your cat go wild and get into the holiday spirit with a new toy or ball filled with catnip. Look for refillable toys so you can keep the catnip fresh.

5. Clothes.

dog in sweater

Is your furry friend a fashionista? Does your pet get cold or have to wear clothes for other reasons? Do you just think it’s cute to dress them up? Stuff their stocking with a new outfit! Look for fun holiday attire online and in pet stores – just make sure to snap a quick pic of the new outfit before your pet scampers off in her new duds.

6. Grooming Supplies.

Show your puppy or kitten some love with some new grooming supplies to help keep them looking and feeling their best! Maybe your dog could use a new brush to keep his coat looking shiny. Your cat could use some new nail clippers to keep those claws at bay! Shampoo, cleansing wipes and ear cleaner are also great ideas! Your pets will love getting pampered, and you’ll love keeping them clean and healthy.

7. Food & Water Dishes.

We all know how much pets love to eat. Why not buy them a new bowl or dish for them to enjoy their grub and drink out of? Pour the bowl full of yummy Wellness Pet Food, and watch your pet chow down and drink out of shiny new bowls and dishes.

8. Blanket.

If an animal’s first love is food, sleep is a close second. Cats and dogs alike would love a new blanket to relax on or roll around with. Look for soft, comforting textures to keep your fur baby comfy and relaxed while they drift off to pet dreamland.

9. Heating Pad.

Animals love to find a place in front of the window to soak up some sun. Don’t let them miss out on that comforting warmth just because the days are shorter. The holidays come with cooler temperatures and less sunlight –  give your four-legged friend his or her very own warm spot! Cats and dogs will love cozying up to a warm heating pad during the coldest days of the year! Make sure to choose a pet-safe heating pad.

10. Holiday Themed Treats.

Show your pup or kitty some extra love this Christmas in the form of special holiday treats. We all love to indulge in seasonal favorites during the holiday season, so why should your pets be any different? With fun flavors such as gingerbread for dogs and turkey and cranberries for cats, your pet will love this special treat, and you’ll love knowing that your pet is getting the very best with Wellness Pet Food.

October 29th is a special day. This is the day we celebrate National Cat Day. If you share your life with cats, you most likely believe every day is National Cat Day (or should be), but this special day gives people a chance to educate others about how wonderful cats are. It’s also a day to celebrate what it means to be a cat person.

1. A cat person is someone who loves and appreciates the language of cats.

Cats can make 100 different vocal sounds, as well as having quite an extensive body language. They also rely heavily on scent communication. The cat person loves the cat for the soft purr heard during times of closeness, but also loves that same cat for the unrelenting meow at 5 a.m. in the morning when kitty thinks breakfast is overdue.

2. A cat person enjoys the delicate and exquisitely elegant movements of a cat.

Stealth and speed combine to create beauty in motion. Whether the cat is stalking prey or just walking through a room, the gait is pure poetry. A cat person loves the cat for how beautiful and silent his movements can be and marvels at how a 6 pound cat can also sound like a team of horses galloping down the hallway when chasing a toy. A cat person appreciates the beauty of a ballet and the pratfalls of a comedy.

3. A cat person provides for the unique requirements that enable a cat to live a happy and healthy life.

Many people think cats are low maintenance and that it’s responsible for their appeal for cat people. That is not accurate at all. While cats don’t need to be walked and can be left alone for longer periods, they aren’t second-rate substitutes for dogs. The care of a cat differs in some ways from the care of a dog but still requires commitment, time, patience, love and attention

4. A cat person knows it’s not about shortcuts.

While the cat may enjoy looking out the window at activity in the trees, it’s better to have one’s own tree indoors. A cat person is also good at role playing and can use toys to imitate birds, mice and other critters. It’s not about throwing a ball and having the pet fetch, but rather, mimicking a mouse so the cat can stalk and pounce, using accurate timing, precision and athleticism. A cat person knows playtime is the feline version of playing chess. It’s all about the right moves at the right time.

5. A cat person understands everyone needs some personal space.

Cat people don’t expect the cat to follow close behind and wait for the next command. When the cat is looking away and appears distant, it means he feels safe… he trusts. He’s also doing a favor by keeping watch for any mice, spiders or flies that try to sneak into the room. A cat person knows the cat has a job to do.

6. A cat person understands the cat’s appreciation for viewing life from all angles.

For a cat, life is very vertical. Whether it’s the top of the refrigerator, balancing on the top of a door, sitting on the highest bookshelf, sleeping in the bathroom sink or napping in the dirty clothes hamper in the closet, the cat can find joy in multiple places we wouldn’t view as comfortable.

7. A cat person accepts that cat hair will be found in the most unlikely places.

8. A cat person has an amazing ability to stay in one position for what seems like an intolerable amount of time.

When a cat is curled up in a lap or sleeping close by, the cat person develops the remarkable strength to avoid scratching an itchy nose, sneezing, coughing, or the need to use the bathroom. The only weakness, however, is that the cat person can’t resist the urge to slowly and silently pull out the smartphone and take a picture of the sleeping cat. A cat person knows you can never have too many cat photos.

9. A cat person understands commitment.

With advancements in veterinary medicine, nutrition and a greater understanding of what’s required for happy, healthy lives, cats are living longer. In many cases, long after the kids have grown up and gone off to college, the family cat is still there. Years ago, when the cat was a kitten, a cat person used to struggle to make the bed as the rambunctious little kitty would insist on playing under the sheet. These days, the bed is left unmade so as not to disturb the senior cat still sleeping there. A cat person’s compassion grows deeper as every day gets more precious.

10. A cat person understands love.

On October 29, celebrate your cats, but also celebrate yourself for the wonderful cat person you are!

Assistance dogs, also known as service dogs, are professionally trained and certified dogs that help people with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. These dogs are the eyes, ears, and protectors for their owners who could not function without them. This year, International Assistance Dog Week falls on August 4th–10th. Join us in celebrating them and giving them a round of “ap-paw-se” for all their hard work.

Assistance Dogs Go Through Intense Training

Assistance dogs are definitely a form of the canine elite. They are disciplined, intelligent and compassionate. Often selected as puppies for the noble purpose of becoming assistance dogs, these pups begin learning their trade from the very beginning.

Assistance Dogs Are Capable of Anything

Typically, there is no limit to what assistance dogs can help their owner with. At minimum, assistance dogs need to be able to assist their owner with two or three tasks. These can be things as important as helping their owner safely cross the street to getting help if their owner has a seizure or more simple tasks such as helping their owner take out a load of laundry or opening the door for a visitor.

Assistance dogs are being used increasingly with owners who have suffered PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) or abuse. In such cases, assistance dogs intuitively create safety barriers around their owners, enabling them to perform normal, daily tasks like going to the grocery store without suffering from aneixty or a panic episode.

What to Do When You Meet an Assistance Dog

Because assistance dogs help their owners engage in day-to-day functions, it is likely you will see one while going about your business—eating at a restaurant, shopping, visiting a friend at the hospital, etc.

When you see an assistance dog, here is what you should know and what you should do:
•    Greet the owner. Do not greet the assistance dog. Speaking to the dog could be distracting.
•    Ask the owner if you can pet their assistance dog if you want to, but do not be offended if they say ‘no’. After all, when the dog is out with their owner, they are at work and need to remain focused.
•    If your pet is with you, keep them away from the assistance dog. Though well-trained, assistance dogs are animals and could get upset if overstimulated by another dog or animal.
•    Follow the assistance dog if it is alone. A lone assistance dog is often a signal that its owner is in trouble and needs help.

How to Support Assistance Dogs

Your instinct to celebrate assistance dogs may be to pet and to provide effusive positive feedback assistance dogs you meet on the street, a better way to help celebrate assistance dogs is to provide support for assistance dogs programs.

Here are things you can do:
•    Find an assistance dog training program that you support and make a donation.
•    Find and donate to a fundraiser for an income-restricted person in need of an assistance dog. Many people who need service dogs cannot get them due to lack of adequate insurance or to financial instability.
•    Spread the word about how to interact with and how to celebrate assistance dogs on social media.
•    Volunteer time or donate food or supplies to an assistance dog training program in your area.

While all dogs are incredible and deserve to be celebrated, assistance dogs play a vital and important role to their owners and—thus—in our society. Celebrate them by learning more about the incredible work that they do, by educating yourself and others on how to interact with them and by supporting causes the help assistance dogs find the people who need them.

We at Wellness Pet Food believe assistance dogs (and all dogs) deserve to be celebrated every day of every week year in and year out, which is why all of our foods, snacks and treats are made using original recipes comprised of natural ingredients. Celebrate your dog the Wellness way.

When it comes to being social, cats are often inaccurately labeled as solitary, aloof and asocial. In reality, cats are social but their social structure is a little different than their canine companions. Cats are territorial and take great comfort in the familiarity of their surroundings. For a cat to get to know another cat requires finesse and patience to avoid fear of the unfamiliar feline being a threat. So a one day social event where unfamiliar cats meet each other at an owner’s place of work wouldn’t be high on a cat’s list of fun ideas. So will cats feel left out as they’re home alone on Take Your Dog to Work Day? Actually, there are probably quite a few cats who may relish in having the house to themselves for those extra hours. That’s not to say a cat doesn’t love their canine companion but they may like this brief one-day staycation.

These are 8 ways cats will celebrate having the house to themselves:

1.    Show that belly.

show the belly

Most cats love to stretch out and snooze as the sun streams in the window. For a cat to stretch out on his back and expose his belly requires a feeling of security. If a cat has an uncertain relationship with the family dog, or if the dog wants to play, sunbathing may not happen as often as the cat would like. Take Your Dog to Work Day gives the cat many hours of ground-level nap time where that tummy can face the world (or rather, the empty room). Even if it’s not sunny, the cat will still enjoy those long yoga stretches without getting poked in the tummy by a dog nose or feeling the breeze of a wagging tail.

2.    Gravity testing.

Many cats indulge in the feline sport of pawing at objects on counters and tables to see how easily they move. The fun starts when the object manages to go off the edge and land on the floor. When the dog is at home, this gravity-testing activity may get cut short if the dog happens to grab the object after it lands and run off with it. The dog may even bark in anticipation of the impending landing which may break the cat’s concentration during this highly refined experiment. With everyone out of the house, the cat can conduct uninterrupted gravity tests.

3.    Pillow time.

pillow time

In many households, the owner’s bed is a prime napping location. Soft, spacious and filled with the comforting scents of the owner, it’s not unusual for cats and dogs to take afternoon naps there. With the house to himself, the cat can pick the ideal spot on the bed for napping as well as a post-nap grooming session. This becomes even more of a luxury if the cat shares the home with a very large dog or multiple pets.

4.    Everything here is mine.

That’s probably what the cat would say if he could on Take Your Dog to Work Day. Whether it’s the bed, the water bowl, the couch or the dog’s favorite chair, on this day it all gets a good dose of cat hair.

5.    Treasure hunting.

exploring

If there are normally rooms that are kept closed off from the dog, there’s a chance they may be left open if the dogs accompany pet parents to work. What a perfect opportunity for a cat to go on an indoor field trip to unknown lands but still be close enough to his litter box and food bowl.

6.    Set the toys free.

Cat with toy

In some homes shared by cats and dogs, the cat toys have to be kept put away and only brought out in areas the dog can’t access. Take Your Dog to Work Day (TYDTWD) means cat toys can be left out everywhere. And, while the toys are out, why not toss a little catnip around as well so kitty can have a little party of one. Cats are quiet when they party so there’s no need to worry about disturbing the neighbors!

7.    Catch up on beauty sleep.

sleeping cat

Cats are masters when it comes to sleeping and here’s a chance to fully partake in this beloved feline ritual. With the house more silent than usual, it’s a perfect opportunity for a cat to string many short cat naps into several hours of sweet dreams.

8.    Happy reunion.

cat and dog

At the end of the day, the cat and dog will likely enjoy being reunited. The cat will get a recap of the dog’s day by checking out unfamiliar and interesting scents on his fur. The dog will probably be so eager to share his excitement over the day and luckily, the cat, being well-rested, will be ready to hear all about it.

Employers looking to boost workplace morale may want to consider hiring from a new pool of talent: one with wagging tails, fur and four legs.

A new survey from Wellness® Natural Pet Food found that 65 percent of American pet parents believe that having pets in the workplace would benefit company culture. That same survey revealed that not only are pets beneficial to morale, but may help with recruitment and employee retention:

•    75 percent of respondents believe that pets would diffuse a stressful situation in the workplace
•    59 percent feel they would get to know their colleagues better if there were pets present
•    Nearly half of dog owners say that “pet perks” are important when considering a job offer, with one in five millennial pet parents noting specifically that being able to bring their dog to work is important when considering a job offer

Pets At Work Can Help Conquer Distractions:

  • More than half (54%) of pet parents report feeling distracted at work thinking about their pet at home
  • One in three (33%) pet parents say taking care of their pet interferes with their work hours

Making Decisions to Make Our Pets Happy:

  • 28% of pet parents would consider accepting a job that would provide more time to spend with their pet

Pets & Workplace Benefits:

  • One-third (32%) of respondents reported feeling more motivated or productive because of pets in the work environment

“Studies have shown how pets can have a positive impact on our own health and wellbeing – from lowering resting blood pressure to reducing stress – but now people are thinking about how those benefits translate to the work environment,” said Dr. Danielle Bernal, staff veterinarian with Wellness Natural Pet Food. “With more companies realizing that pets can improve the working experience, more are going above and beyond to cater to our new furry officemates and make sure they are happy and healthy from 9 to 5.”
