This year’s Earth Month celebrations may look a little different for pet parents, but did you know slowing down and staying close to home can have a positive impact on the environment?

Think about it: There are fewer cars on the road, we take more steps on foot, are more mindful of the things we buy and have the time and space for activities with a light foot (or, paw) print.

Our furry family members love us unconditionally and are so happy to spend more time with their people! Here are some low-impact activities you can take up with your pet by your side:

1. Plant a pet-friendly garden

Now’s a great time to weed, turn over and clean out your garden plots to make room for new growth this spring! Vegetables, fruit bushes, flower beds…the possibilities are endless. If you have a safe, fenced-in outdoor space, your pet will love time in the sun while you work.

Pets and plants don’t always get along, though, so creating balance ensures the two live in harmony. Check out How to Plant a Pet Friendly Garden This Spring for more.

2. Stay active outdoors

In times of in-office work and school, we’d de-stress by looking at images of nature, which can have the same calming effects on the brain as being in nature. With that, just think of how powerful actually being outside can be for your mental health and the wellness of your pet!

Sitting outside and taking walks with your pet are wonderful opportunities to connect with the world and check in with the mind and body. To ensure you leave your path better than you found it, see these 5 Ways to Make Outdoor Excursions with Your Pet More Eco-Friendly. And while we are quarantining, remember to always follow social distancing guidelines. That said, you may need to slightly adjust your outdoor-time approach.

3. Get crafty with a Do-It-Yourself project

Now that you get to spend all this lovely time with your furry family member(s), showering them with attention might bring to mind new toys, collars and other accessories. Instead of buying new, take this opportunity to slow down and get creative by upcycling items you already have into treats your pets will love.

Turn old t-shirts into a ball toss toy for your dog, and toilet paper rolls into a lightweight ball for your cat. You can even make everyday items out of empty Wellness Pet Food packaging, such as a water bowl, treat holder, or a cute little cape for your mighty mutt!

4. Keep recycling Wellness pet food and treat packaging

Now more than ever, recycling is an eco-activity that lowers your carbon footprint and protects the planet for future generations of pets! All Wellness dry food and treat flexible plastic packaging can be easily recycled through our free TerraCycle program. Just join, collect and download a prepaid label from your account.

Bonus: the more you recycle, the more points you earn in exchange for a cash donation to your favorite pet charity or nonprofit organization.

As we approach the winter season, the days will get shorter and the temperatures will get colder. Cats might be resourceful, but they still need shelter when the temperatures drop. When the temperatures get really cold, cats can suffer from frostbite or hypothermia. Their fur coats sometimes simply aren’t enough to keep them warm.

Outdoor Shelters for Community or Stray Cats

Building an outdoor cat house for kitties can keep your feline friends safe and warm during the coldest part of the year. You might want to build an outdoor cat house for your indoor/outdoor cat when she chooses to leave your home.

What about the stray and feral cats that hang out around your house? It’s important for cat parents to take care of the animals in their community. While your cat can stay warm and snug inside your home, community cats may not have a place to escape the harsh cold of the winter. Show the stray cats in your community some love this year by providing them with some winter cat houses to keep them warm and comfy during the winter months. Thinking of building a shelter?

Consider The 6 Tips

1. Cats need to feel secure, so make sure you place the feral cat house in a safe area away from other animals and car and foot traffic.

 2. Also put the outdoor cat winter shelter in a place away from the wind – this will help keep your community cats warm and snug as the temperatures drop.

3. While you can purchase outside cat houses for winter, making your own can be very inexpensive! Many tutorials are available online that use common household items, or even items that you might throw away. Do you have an old ice chest or large plastic bin? Those can be turned into a feral cat winter shelter by cutting an entry/exit on a side wall. Fill it with some straw so kitties can warm it with their body heat. Just make sure that whatever material you use for the outside of your winter cat shelter is insulated and waterproof. For inside insulation, choose material such as straw, which repels moisture. Blankets and hay soak up moisture and are susceptible to mold.

Watch these DIY video

4.  Make sure you position your winter cat house off the ground. Adding support under the outdoor cat winter shelter helps keep felines safe from rain or snow.

5. You should also make sure that the outdoor cat house is the perfect size for your community kitties. The shelter should be large – but not too big. The entrance to the warm cat house also shouldn’t be very big. You don’t want unwanted guests such as dogs or raccoons infiltrating the feral cat winter shelter and scaring off all the cats!

6. If you live in an especially cold area, you may want to make a heated cat house for winter for the stray cats in your community. You can purchase microwavable heat pads that stay warm for a couple of hours. If you have a plug-in nearby, buy some heat pads that are activated by weight, so cats can get some warmth whenever they decide to lounge in the winter cat house.

Check On Your Shelter Regularly

If you decide to make some outdoor cat houses for winter this year for your feline friends, make sure to keep the kitties in your community safe and warm during the colder months.

Check up on the house to make sure that the cats are staying dry. You can invite stray cats to the heated cat house with catnip or treats. If you choose to provide food in your cat house, you can purchase heated outdoor bowls or bowls activated by solar power. You might be the only chance for the stray cats in your community to have a comfortable place to relax from the cold.

Make sure your kitty knows she is appreciated by providing her with the best – and yummiest – food possible. Show some extra love to your cat by giving them some wholesome goodies from Wellness Pet Food. Made with natural ingredients and crafted with your pet’s well being in mind, our treats are the perfect way to show your feline that they have a special place in your heart.

3 Reasons to Recycle for Your Pet (And Inspire Others to Do the Same!) https://www.wellnesspetfood.com.hk/wellness-blog/3-reasons-to-recycle-for-your-pet-and-inspire-others-to-do-the-same/ Mon, 11 Nov 2019 08:33:21 +0000 http://www.wellnesspetfood.com.hk/?p=10407 Every November 15 marks America Recycles Day, the holiday created by Keep America Beautiful to celebrate recycling with education, events and activities. Every November 15 marks America Recycles Day, the holiday created by Keep America Beautiful to celebrate recycling with education, events and activities. An annual opportunity to observe ways we can reduce our impacts and motivate others to do their part, it’s also a time to create new habits we can use to live greener every day.

What does this have to do with our pets? Protecting the planet helps our communities and families, which pets are very much a part of!

Here are some reasons to recycle for your furry family members:

1. It lightens their pawprint

Because domesticated animals are kept (by us, their humans) outside of nature’s regenerative, circular system, the food they eat and the waste they create is not readily renewed or absorbed. Knowing this, it is up to us to make better choices and actively offset our pets’ impacts to make them friendlier to the planet.

One way to lighten their pawprint is to recycle the products and packaging produced by keeping them fed and healthy. Wellness Natural Pet Food makes it easy for pet owners to recycle flexible plastics packaging for free through their network of local recycling solutions, powered by TerraCycle. Just visit the Wellness Pet Food Recycling Program page on TerraCycle.com and search your zip code on the map to find the drop-off point nearest you.

2. It can help other animals

Another positive aspect of recycling through TerraCycle’s national recycling programs is the more you recycle, the more points you can earn in exchange for a cash donation to your favorite environmental nonprofit or pet charity. These are funds you can give to an organization dedicated to rescuing shelter dogs, protecting the natural habitats of wild cats, or fighting against animal abuse.

Recycling through TerraCycle or through your municipal program also helps to save natural resources and keep materials from turning to trash, which in turn can prevent deforestation and reduce ocean pollution. Earth911 is a great resource to see how you can recycle curbside

3. This is their home

Our pets bring us comfort, companionship and joy, but it is not only for these reasons we should protect the environment in which they eat, sleep, and play. When we don’t recycle, misplaced items can contaminate our water and food, leaching chemicals into the ground and water, imposing increased risks to humans, pets, and public health. Take care to properly manage the world’s resources to make a positive impact and inspire other pet parents to do the same.

For walks with your pal, opt for poop bags made of compostable, plant-based material instead of the conventional oil-based plastic, which some experts say are more likely to break down over time. Cat litter made from natural materials, such as wood, can be composted with the proper precautions, and upcycling toys and accessories out of stuff you already have diverts discarded items from landfills and turns them into fun, new playthings your pet will love.

Our pets, like all animals, are at home on earth, just as we are. Saving valuable material from becoming trash through recycling prevents pollution and the need to mine the environment for resources. We only get one planet. It is up to all of us to take care of it for future generations of people, animals, and plants, and do the work to make it a better place for living things today.

From all of us at TerraCycle: Have a PAWsome America Recycles Day!

Read 12 ways to celebrate International Cat Day on August 8th!

international cat day

As a cat lover, you view every day as International Cat Day but August 8th is an opportunity to help spread the word to those who may not know about how wonderful felines really are. This special cat holiday was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare to help raise awareness for cats and to educate people about how to protect them. It’s also an extra day to celebrate your own cats and the relationship you share!

Here are 12 suggestions on ways to celebrate:

1) Extra Playtime

playtime

Engage your cat in an interactive play session today. If you normally do play sessions, offer an extra one or two today. Interactive play is a great way for your cat to completely enjoy being the mighty hunter as you move the toy like prey. Don’t forget to let your cat have several successful captures so the game creates confidence and satisfaction. If you have multiple cats, give each one their own special play session with you so no one has to compete.

2) Cat TV

Set up a comfy place for your indoor cat to enjoy watching wildlife. You can do this by installing a bird feeder in the yard for your cat to view from the window. Another option is to play wildlife videos on YouTube. There are many cat-appealing videos online to entertain your favorite feline.

3) Combine Food and Fun

Puzzle feeders (food-dispensing toys) are a great way to add some fun to meals. As hunters, cats are hardwired to hunt for food and by using a puzzle feeder, they get the reward for a job well done. Puzzle feeders are also good for cats who tend to eat too fast. Search online and you’ll find many types of puzzle feeders or you can make your own. One easy puzzle feeder for dry food is to cut holes in an empty water bottle and place a handful of dry food pieces in there. Make sure the holes are bigger than the size of the food. As your cat paws at the plastic bottle, she’ll be rewarded with a few pieces of food. For wet food, you can place a small amount in each compartment of a plastic ice cube tray. Another way to add fun to food is to create treasure hunts. Hide treats or pieces of cat food in small dishes around the house for your cat to discover.

4) Quiet Time Together

cuddles

Life can get so busy and it’s easy to come home from work and get caught up in all the things that need to be done before going to bed. Your cat has been waiting for you all day and this time together is special. If your cat enjoys sitting on your lap or lounging next to you on the sofa, don’t be too quick to get up and move to the next thing you need to do. Enjoy those moments of just being together. Even if your cat doesn’t enjoy being petted, she may love leaning up against you and being connected.

5) Physical Touch

This includes petting, and, if your cat enjoys it, grooming. Take time this day to focus on how you pet or brush your cat and become aware of those special spots she loves. Does scratching under the chin cause her to purr? Does she love long strokes down the back or does she prefer you to limit your petting to only the back of the head? Be mindful today of the ways in which your cat most enjoys physical touch.

6) Exchange Cat Kisses

Many people believe that when a cat gives you a slow blink, it’s actually a cat kiss. A slow blink says the cat is comfortable and relaxed. If your cat gives you a cat kiss, return it by doing a slow blink in her direction. Keep your gaze soft and don’t stare. A direct stare can be viewed as a threat, but a soft, slow blink is an expression of trust and affection.

7) Break out the Good Catnip

Not all cats react to catnip but if your cat does, have a catnip party. If you only have catnip-filled toys around the house, they’ve probably lost their potency. Stop at the pet supply store and get a container of good quality loose catnip. For the catnip party, you can either rub a toy with the catnip or simply sprinkle the loose, dried leaves on a paper plate and place it on the floor. To release the volatile oil in the dried herb, rub it between your hands before offering to your cat. If your cat doesn’t react to catnip, there are other options, such as silver vine.

8) Get Down on Your Cat’s Level

If you can, sit or lounge on the carpet so you’re at the cat’s level. This is especially nice for cats who are less mobile and don’t tend to jump on furniture or beds. If you spend some time on ground level, you may enjoy some head bunts, chin rubbing or flank rubbing. When your cat gives you a forehead bunt, it’s not only a way of leaving her scent, but also a gesture of affection. This is a common behavior display cats engage in when they are closely bonded. Chin rubbing and flank rubbing are also affectionate gestures.

9) Spruce up the Vertical Environment

cat tree

Cats live in a vertical world and the more territory you can create that allows them to climb and perch, the better. Vertical territory can be as simple as a sturdy cat tree, some window perches, or you can get a little more creative and install cat shelves and walkways along the wall. Vertical territory doesn’t have to be fancy, it just has to be sturdy, comfortable and easy for a cat to access. If you have multiple cats, the increase in vertical territory can be a big help in maintaining harmony.

10) Create Play Tunnels and Hiding Places

Make tunnels out of paper bags. Cut the bottoms, roll a cuff on each end and then tape some bags together to make a homemade play tunnel. Toss a couple small toys or treats in there for your cat to discover. If you prefer to not make a tunnel out of paper bags, you can purchase soft-side tunnels at your local pet product store. If you have a timid cat, tunnels provide extra hiding options and allows a scared kitty to feel invisible so she can relax.

11) Introduce Interesting Scents

This is especially appealing for indoor cats. Bring in a couple of leaves from outdoors, or maybe a very small branch. If you happen to find a bird feather on the ground, bring that in for your cat to do a scent investigation.

12) Share the Love

Take pictures of your cats to document this special day and share them on social media. It’s a great way to get people talking and sharing about the joy of living with cats. And, who doesn’t love sharing pictures of cats!

pet safety 4th of july

The 4th of July is a great time for family, friends, and great food—what better way to celebrate Independence Day? For many, that celebration includes fireworks, which happens to be where the fun ends and the anxiety begins for pets. While animals may love the camaraderie of July 4, they do not love the pyrotechnics. Fireworks are known to cause anxiety and fear in pets, and can cause other safety hazards for pets during the Summer holiday. Learn what they are and how to avoid them this July 4.

Keep Your Pet from Getting Lost

Did you know that more pets get lost on July 4 than any other day of the year? This is because the noise and the shocking light from fireworks can set pets into a panic. They want to escape, and when they do, they can easily bolt away if untethered, pull a lead from an owner’s grasp, or burrow their way out of a backyard. If you have a cat or a dog that might be exposed to fireworks (and thus, a runaway risk), then take these steps.

  • Take a recent photo of your pet.
  • Ensure your pet’s ID tag is on and is visible.
  • Make sure your pet’s enclosure / fencing is secure .

Keep Your Pet Secure Inside

4th dog

If possible, put your pet indoors. Not all pet owners have this option, but if your pet is indoors, then you know he or she cannot runaway; however, even indoors or in a garage or another safe enclosure, your pet can still hear the fireworks and thus get scared (and loud).

  • To keep your pet safe indoors, make sure your pet is in a comfortable, familiar location. If you are with friends and your pet cannot be in a familiar location, at least make sure that he is surrounded by bedding or toys or a food source that is familiar. This will help comfort them.

  • Try to put your pet in a space where the outside firework noise is reduced or (ideally) avoided all together.

  • Feed your pet prior to the fireworks starting. If your pet is well-fed, they might rest more easily. If your pet is not fed and gets anxious, they may not eat because of her stress.

  • Set up some soothing stimulation for your pet whether it’s the Animal Channel or a little soothing music to block the noise of the fireworks and to calm and distract your pet during the fireworks.

  • Check in on your pet often. Pet them and let them know you’re there. Physical touch is as important in consoling animals as it is in humans.

Keep Your Pets Safe While Outdoors

At the time it comes to shoot fireworks whether it is you or one of your neighbors, some pets may have to be outdoors. If this is the case, there are things you can do to keep your pet safe beyond helping them not run away. After all, their mental and emotional heath are important as well.

  • If you are shooting fireworks, tether pets so that they do not get near the flames. Use all fireworks according to safety regulations (i.e., have a water bucket and hose nearby) to ensure your pets are not casualties of irresponsible fireworks usage.

  • Make sure your pet is well-fed before fireworks start. This can keep them calmer and can ensure they have a good night of sleep.

  • Make sure they know where you are.

  • Create good lighting outdoors, so they do not feel disoriented with the bursts of light from the sky.

  • Create a haven for them. If possible, put blankets over their shelter or create some kind of space, so that the noise penetration from the fireworks is not so stressful. This will ensure they stay safe and secure during the fireworks.

  • Check on them from time to time and provide physical and verbal comfort.

pets and 4th

The reality is that the fourth of July is a stressful time for pets because of fireworks. If possible, perhaps you can find a way to have a fun July 4 without fireworks. Of course, even if you do, your neighbors might not. Regardless, however you celebrate, make sure to take strident and proactive steps to ensure your pet’s physical, mental and emotional well-being in the days before, during and after the holiday when fireworks are sure to fly.

We at Wellness Pet Food want you to have a happy Independence Day with your pet, but we also care about making sure your pet is well. That is why when we make pet food, we formulate recipes with natural ingredients that will help pets achieve mental, emotional and physical balance.

Jewelry isn’t a cliché gift when it’s something unique and one-of-a-kind, like a sterling silver necklace in the image of your favorite person’s pet. A message engraved on the back makes this gift extra charming.

7. Engraved Photo Keychain

Since your Valentine’s pet no doubt has the key to their heart, it’s only fitting that they have an elegant sterling silver keychain bearing their pet’s likeness on the front and a special message from you on the back.

8. Handmade Dog-Print Scarf

Fashionable pet lovers will not be able to resist a soft, stylish handmade scarf from Aurora Grace Design. The scarves come in multiple colors and patterns. They’re sure to keep your Valentine warm all season long.

9. Personalized Yeti Cup

You’ll be on that special someone’s mind year-round when you give them a Yeti cup engraved with their pet’s picture and name. Every time they sip their coffee on cool morning walks, they’ll remember how much you care about them and their pet.

10. Bouquet of “Home Is Where the Dog Is” Cookies

Though nothing is surely sweeter than your sweetie (or their pet), this bouquet of “Home is Where the Dog Is” cookies comes close. Available in bouquets of 5, 7, 9 or 12 cookies, this tasty shareable treat allows you to include a custom message (may we suggest “Bone” Appetit?).

If you’re looking for a gift that speaks the language of love to your or your special person’s pet(s), then try surprising them with a new, natural pet food or treat from Wellness Pet Food. Wellness recipes are as healthy as they are delicious.

Great pet photos that are the stuff of frame-worthy holiday cards sometimes just happen by happy accident, but more often than not, they are carefully planned and executed. By following these careful steps, you, too, can take the puuurfect holiday card photo of or with your pet.

Find a Location that Makes Your Pet Happy

Any time you photograph your pet, you should be in an area where your pet is happy and familiar. If you are somewhere strange, your pet might be too curious or agitated to sit still.

Other tips for the perfect holiday card location are:

  • Find a location that captures the holiday spirit. A snowy park or field or on your couch atop a festive red blanket will do the trick.
  • If your setting doesn’t set the scene for a holiday card, use one or two (like a giant candy cane, a Santa hat, or a gift wrapped in subdued paper). Keep props to a minimum, though.
  • Pick a setting that doesn’t compete with the focus. Look for a setting that doesn’t have a lot of textures or action, so when you snap your photo, your pet is the primary focus.
  • Make sure your setting is well-lit. Natural light is a best-kept secret for beautiful holiday card pet photos.

Turn Off Your Camera Flash

On the topic of lighting, turn the flash on your camera or phone off. Flashes not only create odd shadows, but they can also startle your pet.
Instead, plan your photo session for the early morning or late afternoon–specifically, just after dawn or right before dusk. The soft, glowing natural light illuminates your subject without casting harsh shadows.

Get on Your Pet’s Level

If the picture is a solo photo of your pet, kneel, sit, or lay down on the floor to get an eye-level photo. The best pet holiday cards are intimate because they allow the audience to connect with the subject, not look down at him or her.

Keep Distractions to a Minimum

Getting your pet’s attention for holiday photos can sometimes be a challenge. Feel free to use a toy to get your pet to look at the camera, but do not have too many toys or distractions at hand because too much stimulation will divide your pet’s attention.

Avoid Using Your Zoom

Most people use their smart phones to take incredible holiday pet photos, which is fine, but the more you zoom in, the lower the quality of the photo becomes. Instead, get close to your subject.
If that is not an option because you are trying to get an action shot, take the best photo you can where you are standing, then zoom, crop, and edit after the fact.

Have a Plan Before You Start

Before you and your pet get out into the field (whether “the field” is a literal field or just in front of your fireplace), have a plan for the photo you want. Picture the lighting, the positioning, and the props how you want the image to look, beforehand. (Look at Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration.) While you should be open to making changes (your pet might want to sit up instead of lay down, for example), a plan enables you to get in and get out before your pet gets bored with the project. (After all, your pet doesn’t have all day.)
Speaking of a plan, if you hire someone to take the photo of you and your pet or of your pet for your holiday card, be specific about what you want. In particular if you hire someone, have a few ideas in mind.

Most Importantly, Have Fun With It!

As most of us know, pets can be unpredictable. No one said photographing them would be easy! So go ahead and have fun with it! Who knows, the bloopers may end up being your favorite shot!

Summary

To conclude, you can get the best holiday card by:

  • Finding a great location where your pet is comfortable
  • Keeping props and distractions to a minimum
  • Using natural lighting
  • Getting on your pet’s level
  • Avoiding using your zoom to frame the shot (use an editing program instead)
  • Having a plan for the picture before you start
  • Have fun with it!

TerraCycle® is an innovative recycling company that has become a global leader in recycling hard-to-recycle waste. Wellness Natural Pet Food is the first U.S.-based pet food brand to make its packaging nationally recyclable through a partnership with TerraCycle. So far, the partnership has resulted in over 100,000 pet food bags diverted from landfills.

Getting crafty with empty Wellness pet food packaging and common items found around the house takes a nod from our past to support the environment and reduce waste.

1. Tennis Ball & T-shirt Toss Toy

Materials:

  • old t-shirts
  • tennis ball

Tools:

  • scissors

Instructions:

  1. Cut t-shirt into 2 thick strips (use two t-shirts if needed).
  2. Put in “X” formation.
  3. Place tennis ball in the middle.
  4. Fold t-shirt strips around tennis ball.
  5. Tie with thin piece of t-shirt.
  6. Take the tails and cut into strips – still attached to the top of the t-shirt.
  7. Braid strips.
  8. Knot ends or secure with t-shirt tie.
  9. Toss and play with pup.

2. Pet Treat Holder

diy pet treat holder
Materials:

Tools:

  • scissors
  • tape

Instructions:

  1. Start with a clean, empty dog food bag. Cut a square that is 7 ½ inches on each side. Centered inside the square, draw a smaller square that is three inches on each side. This smaller square will be 2 ¼ inches from all edges.
  2. On the top edge of the smaller square, draw a semicircle that hits the top of the large square and starts and ends at opposite corners of the small square. Repeat for the other 3 sides. Cut around these lines.
  3. Pro tip: To give your treat pouch dimension, make an extra ¼ inch fold at the base of each semicircle.
  4. Along the lines of the small square, fold all 4 semicircles towards the center. Your piece should fold up to the size of the small square. Tape the bottom flap and two side flaps in place.
  5. Attach one side of the self-adhesive Velcro® fastener on the inside of the top flap. Then, fold down the flap so the other side of the self-adhesive Velcro® fastener attaches to the outside of the bottom flap. Let the Velcro® fastener stick where it naturally landed after you folded the top flap down.
  6. Fill your new treat pouch with your favorite treats for your pet.

3. Wellness Dog Cape

TerraCycle DIY Pet Cape
What You’ll Need

Tools:

  • ruler
  • scissors
  • pen

Instructions:

  1. Start with a clean pet food bag, and cut the edges off.
  2. Use your ruler to draw a trapezoid that is 6 inches wide at the bottom, 4 inches wide at the top, and 7 ½ inches tall.
  3. Fold over the narrow end, about ¾ inch.
  4. Use a length of tape to keep the fold closed.
  5. Cut a 17 ½ inch strip of elastic.
  6. Loop it through the fold on the cape.
  7. Tie and adjust accordingly so it fits your pet.

Design Tip: Cut the bottom in a funky pattern. Try a zig-zag or wavy shape!

4. Toilet Paper Roll Cat Toy

cat toy
What You’ll Need

  • an empty cardboard toilet paper roll
  • Wellness Kittles (optional, but highly recommended)

Tools:

  • ruler
  • scissors
  • pen

Instructions:

  1. Mark 4 finger-width (about ¼ inch) marks on the side of the cardboard roll.
  2. Use the scissors to cut each ring.
  3. Insert the first ring into the second ring, then continue with the third and fourth, until you’ve formed a ball.
  4. Fill the toy with some delicious Wellness Kittles and your cat will spend some fun time trying to get to them!

5. Collapsible Pet Water Bowl

pet water bowl diy
Materials:

Tools:

  • ruler
  • pen or marker
  • scissor

Instructions:

  1. Start with a clean pet food bag.
  2. Flatten out the package and measure the width.
  3. Measure and mark lines on both ends to make the length of the wrapper the same size as the width. A 10-inch square or smaller will probably work best.
  4. Cut along your marked lines.
  5. Mark a border 2 inches from the edge along each side of the square.
  6. Fold and crease firmly along this line. Unfold and flatten it.
  7. Fold up two sides at one corner of the square. Make a diagonal crease from the corner to the folded border creating an upright triangle. Repeat this for all corners, then unfold them.
  8. Take the Velcro® tabs, unfasten them, and stick each one on either side of the corner of the square, one per triangle. Make sure that they will line up when fastened.
  9. Fold up the bowl at the corners and press the hook and loop fasteners together. You are ready to dish up your pet’s favorite snack in your new bowl.
